The University of Tokyo has launched the “UTokyo Gender Equity Initiative #WeChange”, an initiative to develop female leaders. The initiative aims to raise awareness among all members of the University, including faculty, staff, and students, as well as double the rate of increase in the number of female faculty compared to the past decade by recruiting approximately 140 female professors and 160 female associate professors. This equates to a quarter of all new appointments and promotions to professor and associate professor positions: total of approximately 300 females out of 1200 professors and associate professors to be newly appointed by AY 2027. In order to disseminate the activities of this project inside and outside the university and to further develop it, we have formulated a logo mark and released a website.
– Message behind the logo
The motif of the created place itself, conveys brightness and dynamism as each individual part gathers toward the center. The “people who gather there” is expressed as the inward energy and the “UTokyo Compass Into a Sea of Diversity: Creating the Future through Dialogue” is expressed as the outward energy. The aim is to create a single system of expression to visualize a vibrant place where everyone wants to gather.

– About the Website
We have released our website as a place to disseminate our project activities to both inside and outside the university. The website will be updated as needed with information on events, reports, newsletters, and other information on the project.
In addition, the website also includes greetings from President FUJII Teruo , Executive Vice President HAYASHI Kaori of the University of Tokyo given at the start of the project, as well as information on the details of initiatives and action plans to ensure the implementation of the project and various supports provided to faculty and staff members, as well as current students.
The movie page has a PR video for the project and an animated movie featuring the logo character are available.
